bedrooms

Here's a picture of my bedroom, taken about five minutes ago. When I first bought the house, I remember thinking how strange it was that the master bedroom was at the front, with the windows opening up to the street. You definitely get less privacy that way! I like to open the curtains for natural light, but people driving or walking by can see me ironing or walking around.

It's also the first time in a decade that I've had to set up my ironing board in my bedroom. Em's room used to be my shoe room, but it was more of a dressing room. I had shelves to hold all my shoes and a closet held all my bags, and the ironing board and full length mirror were there to help me get dressed in the morning. I miss that! There's no way I can get dressed with the curtains open, so I do it in the semi-darkness and open them once I'm done.

I suppose it'll only be another year before Jamie moves out, opening up the downstairs bedroom/bathroom for Em, and I can have my shoe room back. I'd love to see your room! Play along and post a pic.

It's very sunny today, making it a great day for a drive out to the farm. We'll go when Bill gets back from washing the truck, and dropping off another invoice from some eavestroughing work that he did in 2007. He's determined to make some of these people pay, even though it's been delinquent for a year. I hope they do, it would really help us.

Have a nice Sunday, and don't forget to take a pic of your bedroom :)

  1. What a peaceful, soothing room that is! Since I live on a street corner, I have windows facing two different streets. I cope with the privacy problem with "cafe" curtains, which are simple panels hung with tension rods placed to cover the bottom half of the windows. I still get plenty of light from the top half, but I also get some privacy, too. Of course, it helps that I'm really short. The top of the cafe curtains is at nose level on me.

  4. I'd love to post one now but our bed is still rumpled from last night ;) We have beautiful arcadia doors that open up to the back patio. The view is incredible. I'll post one when we make our bed... Have a great Sunday Kate.

  7. My room is at the front of my house, too, on the 2nd floor, so I mostly have to worry about peeping squirrels. It feels like being in a treehouse!

(I'm not sharing any photos until I change the wall color - right now it's the same shade or beige that "flesh" colored BandAids are!)

  11. Dark and soft muted colors and or prints are suitable for drifting off to sleep!

    I *wish* I had your king-size bed,lol! I have a full-Queen (a full size that's almost a queen size) and I'm all over it in the morning!

Great idea you have, Kate. :) I'll post mine in the morning, as I already wrote an entry for tonight.

  12. My bedroom and patio doors are on the front of the building, on the second floor. I have a heavy curtain that I leave half open, but I have a folding screen that blocks the other side. My other bedroom window can be left uncovered, as there is no way for other house occupants or passers by to see into it.

When I get some of the stuff off the floor, I'll take a photo, but it won't be pretty in any event, very dormish :-)

  14. Looks like a nice, big bedroom. I can bowl in mine. lol. We took the wall down separating the two small bedrooms, and made one huge master bedroom out of it. I like it. I'll have to post a picture, too. Hugs.

  15. Like others here mine is a disaster right now. Sunday is laundry day and the bed is torn apart. Love the colours in your room. Mine is a soft sage green. I have three huge windows and the room is at the front but three stories up. I still put in the blinds that I can open from the top or the bottom. I love having them open from the top - on lovely sunny days I can look out and see Mount Baker -- its a gorgeous view from the bedroom.

Kate I love your sense of sharing and I promise to post a pic soon.

  16. Great idea Kate. Love the chocolatey texture in your room. Lovely big windows!

I have no idea how to post a photo here so I am doing a post on my own blog to continue the theme. Feel free to visit and check out my room.

  17. I put my queen size bed in what would normally have been a childrens room and the bed just fits in it. But that's ok, since it's primarily only for sleeping anyway. All my ironing, etc. is done in other rooms. For some stupid reason, the children get the smallest rooms in German homes, while the parents get huge ones. Maybe I'll post a pic later today. Oh, and being on the 8th floor, there's no worry of peeping Toms heehee

  20. WE just moved into our new house so the bedroom is not quite prepared. Furniture is, but not photos on the walls. Room faces very large backyard with a tall fence so tons of privacy. Your room looks lovely.

Ben - at one time, I had sixty three pairs of shoes and eleven pairs of boots, as well as thirty-five handbags.
