mid week

photographer unknown

Well, the truck went back to the dealership Monday night, with a minimum amount of drama. Not that I wasn't edgy and easily hurt that day, but it went okay. Bill drives an older pickup and he's been giving me rides to work.

The car we were looking at didn't have a/c, so we're back to square one but still hope to pick something up on Friday. That'll go a long way to making me feel more independent, even though my credit rating is in the toilet right now.

Onward and upward.

Since my family has decided they don't want to have Christmas, I've been a little down about it. My Mom turns eighty-one this Sunday and I just don't know how to have Christmas without her! I might have been okay had my sister wanted to do something with us, but they want to do their own thing as well. *sigh* For now, our plan is to volunteer at at least one place, do Christmas Mass at St. Mary's on Christmas Eve, and have Christmas dinner here at home the next day. I think we'll all go to a movie on Christmas night.

Jamie wants to start planning and saving for a trip next year - she wants to do Christmas in New York! That would mean no family vacation again next summer so I'm not sure how I feel about that. I love the idea of a holiday like that, but our financial situation would really have to improve!

I hope you're all having a good week, so far.

  1. It's hard straying away from traditions. But maybe this will be a good time to start a few of your own!

  2. Well this year could be a year with unexpected joy. Volunteering is always good for the heart. Like Ms. Salti said starting new traditions can be the best. As a group you can decide what you would like to carry on and what you would like to drop.
Maybe all gifts should be a written letter to the person telling them what they mean to you and what you admire in them. These can be private to be read while alone. Pass out the hugs later.
One thing I am a stickler for is Christmas is in the home and not in a hotel away from home unless you are actually visiting someone for Christmas. But that is just me. I am very traditional when it comes to Christmas. I think I keep wanting to make sure my family has it better than I did as a child. I don't mean stuff but the warmth of family at Christmas.

  4. Well I think the volunteer thing is fabulous - I would love to do that myself. We have to keep changing our Christmas every year but we are getting better at making plans and telling the family what is happening.

I am just proud of how you keep pushing through everything - your reward isn't too far off. I am sure.

  5. I have a feeling that y'all will really be rewarded for the time you spend sharing yourself helping others.

Hang in there. Things are going to continue to get better, one step at a time. *hugss* You will get there xxx

  6. Volunteering really makes a difference this time of year. It's hard to change what is accustomed to.

  7. Kate I'm way behind in keeping up with you, and I am not quite clear about the truck. But the Christmas idea you have is really what it's supposed to be methinks. Still, difficult though. We have cut way back here, but we are all still together and thankful for that. Wizardress is right...one step at a time. Hugs.

  8. Years ago I stopped swapping presents with people but I still show up for the festivities. Getting together to have a good time is what the holiday is really about anyway. So I dress up in red and green and am always willing to sing carols or drink spiked eggnog.

    * The holiday is what you make it. I'm actually crocheting hats and such (by request) this year . . . I'm bending wire around stones for jewelry . . . all very inexpensive stuff. It's agreed presents don't come my way, it's just something I want to do.

  9. Christmas in NY would cost a pretty penny! It'd be a great time, though, I'm sure! Me ... I'm happy to keep it at home. ;D
