vitalaire healthcare lost a good employee today

Last week I lodged a complaint against the area manager for Vitalaire in Southern Alberta.

The big kahuna came down from Edmonton today, to let me know that ALL my claims were unsubstantiated and he believes it comes down to a personality conflict. He gave me two weeks notice, which I declined. They'll pay me out.

He had a cab waiting for me, as he was taking my company van and cellphone.

I'm not sure how I feel - certainly, I'm disappointed that it came to this. I'm really going to miss my customers! But I will NOT miss Karim, the one I've been writing about under the pseudonym Omar.

One of the very first things he ever said to me was "What is your status and why are you driving one of those new vans?"

The next was to tell me that I was a "dominant woman" and had to back off.

He yelled at me every time I called to let him know I was working overtime.

I hope my next position is easier than the last few I've had. I know that I can have problems with bad managers but otherwise I am an awesome catch!

  1. bummer, this manager seems to think he's god's gift from heaven. his name suggests a background that's hostile to women. good luck on your job hunting. it could be a blessing in disguise.

  3. I know this is a trite old saying, but...
when one door closes, another one opens...
Praying the next door that opens to you is the right one, where you can work appreciated and fulfilled.

  4. I'm sorry to hear this, Kate, but I know you'll prevail once again-you always do. Good for you for standing up for yourself. I'm not too certain why it is that I hear of this kind of disrespect so often (lately) in the work force, especially with upper management. It's uncalled for and basically 'Adult Bullying.' My husband see's this with his upper management far too often. I'm waiting his pay-out too, one of these days.People who have been there the longest (such as my husband) are dropping like flies. Sooner or later Toronto division will soon wonder what's going on out West here.

Anyways...I should do a post but have to be so careful. No slander in any what way. That's pretty hard (coughs..)smiles*

Good luck to you, Kate, in what you do next.I have faith in you ((hugs)))

  5. Their loss. Good for you in standing up for what is right and fair and not "taking" that sort of demeaning and abuse. Certainly sounds stereotypical and cultural from Karim's perspective but in truth you deserve better. Good luck in the next work doorway that opens for you. ))hugs(( M

  6. He sounded rather sexist. I hope you find something that is a good fit for some one as smart as you.

  7. Thanks everyone. I still wonder what I could have done differently, but overall I was happy to help, polite, hardworking....they just wanted to go another way and instead of being decent, came down on me for speaking up.
It really sucks, because it's a good job for Bill.
